Weekend Trip to St George (March 2014)

My brother and his family invited us to come along with them for a short weekend excursion down south. We got there at 1:00 am on Saturday and left Sunday afternoon but we packed as much fun as could into those 36 hours!!

Ashlyn's Bapstism and Family Birthday Party

Ashlyn was lucky enough to be baptized ON her birthday, March 29, 2014. It was a cloudy day but it never rained and the temperature was just right. We gathered at our Stake Center for the baptism around noon. She was the only person being baptized that day from our ward, so we had the entire program to ourselves, including all of the prayers and talks! Grandpa Talley gave a short talk on baptism in the chapel before we moved to the font area. Corbin baptized Ashlyn without any mishaps or re-do's :). I gave a talk about the Holy Ghost after we dried Ashy off and changed into her white dress. Then Daddy performed the confirmation accompanied by family members and friends. My favorite part was at the end of my talk when I was telling Ashlyn about how you feel when you have the Holy Ghost with you and how important it is to have, she got teary-eyed and I could just tell she was feeling the spirit :). It was a perfect day for our beautiful little girl.

This is part of Ashlyn's birth family. Birth great-grandparents, birth grandparents, birth sister, cousin & aunt. We wish her birth parents would have been able to come, but we were grateful for those that did. They love her very much!

The "Talley" side (missing a lot!!)
Just us!

Time for presents back at the house!

Ashy's first set of scriptures. She was actually excited about them!
She was probably a little more excited about this!

Ashlyn's 8th Birthday & Friend Party at the Lion House

When I turned 8, I had a "special" birthday party at the Lion House in downtown Salt Lake City. My mom wanted Ashlyn to have the same experience, so she arranged for her to have her friend party there this year, the day before she turned eight. The kids were out of school for Spring break that Friday which worked out perfectly! It's hard to believe that they are still hosting birthday parties there after all these years. There is  much of our pioneer heritage and our faith symbolized in every intricate structure and decoration within the walls of this beautiful old house. The girls loved the special, fancy party and actually enjoyed hearing the history and stories from those early days of the saints here in Utah.
They had to stop and see all the sights between the parking garage and the Lion House :).
Getting ready to go inside.
The birthday girl in her "special" pioneer chair!
Pioneer history trivia
For the most part, they really listened to everything the hostess had to say.
Taking a tour of the outside of the Lion House. I love that Ashy is holding Sammy's hand :).
Counting the gable windows on the top floor of the Lion House.
Playing "Hide the Thimble"
Making homemade taffy
Birthday cake!!!
The party girls :)

Getting ready to open presents
I was so excited that they still give the birthday girl a doll at the end of the party! I got one when I had my party there and I still have it. Ashy's doll is a lot nicer!
At this point, all the other girls said they wanted to have their next birthday party at the Lion House too!! :)

We let the girls walk around Temple Square a little bit before driving home.

It was such a beautiful day! No one wanted to go home :).
Love this little girl with all our hearts :)
